The Ins and Outs of Medicare
Everyone’s heard of government run senior Medicare, and the medical aid the program successfully gives to many Americans, but making sense of the different programs and benefits can be challenging.
There are senior Medicare parts A, B, C and D, each associated with different eligibility requirements, premiums and benefits. Another aspect of Medicare for seniors is MediGap which, depending on your eligibility, is supplemental insurance provided by private health insurance companies covering the gaps left by your Medicare insurance.
Knowing the differences between the plans is extremely important. The different plans focus on different aspects of health care. For example, if you are in generally good health but take a lot of prescriptions, you want to make sure you have Plan D, which is a plan that covers prescription drugs.
There’s also the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) program, available to some people who are elderly or disabled, and have limited income, which can cover some of your premiums and deductibles from senior Medicare parts A and B.
Sound complicated? Then you might want to check out Medicare Training, an online tutorial that can guide you through the complexities, and benefits, of the senior Medicare program. This tutorial is part of Medicare Information Source, a helpful site on senior Medicare put together by the Senior Resource Center for Medicare Information. The site gives an overview of all the available plans, as well as offering the training tutorial, and the opportunity to compare senior Medicare plans and apply online. They’ll tell you how to enroll, and help you make sense of how senior Medicare can work for you.
Our articles and blogs, in conjunction with our senior Medicare section, can help immensely on finding more information on the different plans of Medicare as well as broad information about the program.
